PESHAWAR: Declaring the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s procedure for appointments to the posts of primary schoolteachers (PST) through the National Testing Service (NTS) as void, the Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday directed the Education Department to first appoint those candidates who had already passed the tests and interviews for the posts in 2012.

A two-member bench comprising Chief Justice Mian Fasihul Mulk and Justice Musarrat Hilali set aside the provincial government’s plea for fresh tests and interviews for the posts of PSTs through National Testing Service (NTS), with observation that the Education Department had already conducted tests and interviews in 2012 for the same posts.

The bench observed that the government could appoint the PSTs and other positions through the NTS in future but in this case the candidates had already passed tests and interviews under the old system.

More than 200 candidates including Waqas and Rozina from across the province had challenged the Education Department’s re-advertisement of the PST posts on December 2013.
